Through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the billionaire has invested over $9 billion in 45 African countries to reduce poverty and improve healthcare. Speaking at the National Economic Council in Abuja yesterday, Bill Gates poked some (obvious) holes in the Nigerian economy. In case you missed the speech, watch it here or read it here.
Some quotes from his speech
Bill Gates in Nigeria talks about the country’s youth: “More than half of rural Nigerian children can’t adequately read and write.”
“The conclusion is inescapable, Nigeria’s economy tomorrow depends on improving its schools today.”

Senator Dino Malaye’s hot new single
Your favourite senator and musician-cum-video vixen Dino Malaye has released another hit track, this one for his latest adversary, Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi State. Watch the video below.
FLASH: Senator @dino_melaye has a message for the Governor of Kogi State, Yahya Bello. pic.twitter.com/grw3xnD2oH
— Jubril A. Gawat (@Mr_JAGs) March 21, 2018
Last week, the police arrested two political thugs in Kogi state who reportedly confessed that Senator Dino Malaye provided them with ammunitions and money to cause mayhem in the state. The senator denied the allegations claiming that it is a ploy by the Kogi state Governor to bring him down following his revelation that the governor has been importing restricted security gadgets without obtaining necessary certifications.
Senator Dino Melaye is representing Kogi West! How can he now fund thugs from Kogi East??This lies looks so cheap! Why will force PPRO go all the way to lokoja to parade suspects? This strategy is weak and dead on arrival ~~~

Cambridge Analytica and Nigeria’s 2015 elections
Facebook is in a massive data scandal following the reports of a whistleblower who claimed that his former employer, Cambridge Analytica used Facebook data to target voters during the last US elections. Asides America, Cambridge Analytica was also involved in elections in Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Australia and Brazil. It also attempted to influence Nigeria’s 2015 presidential elections.
According to the whistleblower, a Nigerian billionaire who was wary of the impact of a new government on his activities contracted the company to sway votes in favour of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
Cambridge Analytica tried to sway Nigeria’s last elections with Buhari’s hacked emails https://t.co/j33gSJ4nMs via @qzafrica
— Quartz Africa (@qzafrica) March 22, 2018
In case anyone in Nigeria thinks the Facebook / Cambridge Analytica story doesn’t affect them: “Executives boasted that Cambridge Analytica… had worked in more than two hundred elections across the world, including Nigeria.” https://t.co/UAE4FtfEvv
— Christian Purefoy (@purefoyAMEBO) March 19, 2018
By the way, it was reported that some billionaire also paid Cambridge Analytica about $2Million to help sway Nigeria voters towards Johnathan at our last election
— Emperor (@Emperor101231) March 22, 2018
Nigerians reacted
The height of corruption
Data is the new oil. The new currency. When democracies like The United States have evidence of such data mining, imagine how countries like Nigeria and Kenya can be manipulated. Imagine how far corrupt politicians will go to hire companies like Cambridge Analytica.
— Obianuju! (@ijeomaumebinyuo) March 20, 2018
Cambridge Analytica was actually hired to support Goodluck Jonathan in 2014. Those who hired them were willing to spend up to $4m to ensure Buhari’s defeat in 2015. They held several meetings abroad. So it’s not only Trump. That was how far Jonathan’s men went to try and win.

Success is relative: Cambridge Analytica failed to influence Nigeria’s elections https://t.co/C0KaU4CM8Z
— Jide Martyns Okeke (@jmartyns) March 21, 2018
Reports do not indicate whether or not Goodluck Jonathan knew of Cambridge Analytica’s role in his election campaign. However, the question of the identity of the Nigerian billionaire is one we should be asking.
Abducted Dapchi girls return home
Last month, I reported that men of the Boko Haram terrorist group stormed Dapchi, a village in Yobe state on February 19 and made away with about 105 students of the Government Girls Technical College.
Nigerians began to suspect foul play when Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam revealed that just before the attacks, the troops deployed in Dapchi were withdrawn.
However, the Nigerian army dismissed the accusation, claiming that since Dapchi was peaceful, the troops were actually redeployed to another region plagued by Boko Haram attacks while the security of Dapchi town was formally handed over to the police.
On Wednesday this week, news broke that the Dapchi girl had been released by their abductors.
FLASH: Boko Haram has reportedly returned all kidnapped #DapchiGirls girls back to Dapchi township in Yobe, unfortunately, five of them a dead.
— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) March 21, 2018
Dapchi resident told me Boko Haram preached to them this morning, saying three things – that the girls are not to go back to school, that they didnt receive money from Gov and that the did not sexually assault the children.
— Stephanie Hegarty (@stephhegarty) March 21, 2018
According to reports, asides the ones that died, all the girls were released except a Christian girl named Liya Sharibu who reportedly refused to deny her faith.
“Boko Haram shook hands with the parents and apologised for abducting them. They said if they knew they were Muslim girls, they wouldn’t have abducted them”-Guardian
Leah Salibu, the only Christian among the Dapchi girls has not been released cos she refused to renounce her faith.

It is obvious that Boko Haram & Fulani Herdsmen are both Political!
So unfortunate!

There’s nothing to celebrate in the return of #DapchiGirls.
There’s every reason to believe that it was as plot, scam, money laundering scandal.
And those behind it should account for the 5 lives lost.

If it was not apparent before, it is now with the return of the #DapchiGirls. BH will be here with us for a long time. It has become too lucrative. Even people who are not ideologues will create small factions just to kidnap & take a ransom. We are in deep sh*t.

Why am I getting this gidi feeling that this #DapchiGirls adoption and release is a political card being played here. I’m so excited my sisters are back but I feel the lives of over 100 girls has just been used as pawn on the Naija political chessboard? Follow my reasons 👇🏾
